Will the Voucher Education Program be good? We discuss - you decide!
Please consider the well reasoned thoughts of Pastor Jason Epps regarding Referendum 1 which will be on the ballot on November 6th. I fully support the voucher program, not all do, but I think competition is good everywhere, even in education. Voucher’s do not hurt public schools financially and will make class room size smaller, giving parents a choice for their children. Please consider this and spread the word. If we can’t pass a voucher bill in Utah , where conservatism is strongest, it will not happen anywhere. This bill was past by our legislature and signed into law by our Governor, but the courts said it had to go to the people, which is great, because that is where it should be.
Dear GF Family and Friends,
If you read the news or listen to the radio, you have probably heard about "Utah Referendum 1," which will be on the ballot in our state on November 6. This referendum would give Utah parents the option of receiving a voucher for their child's education at the school of their choice. In my opinion, we must do all we can to promote the passage of this referendum. If such a measure were to pass, parents would have the option of putting their children in a private Christian school just like the one Gospel Fellowship is planning on starting in the near future and like other great existing schools such as Intermountain Christian. Just imagine the impact that could be had on the lives of Utah's children if they had the option of attending a school that taught the arts and sciences from a Christian worldview rather than having to endure public education that is regarded as some of the worst in the nation.&n bsp;
My firm belief is that parents in Utah, who pay an average of $7,500 in taxes to the public school system each year, should have the option of using a portion of that ($500-$3,000 depending on the family's income level) to subsidize a private, Christian education.
Please prayerfully consider this matter. You can check out the website, www.votefor1.org - to research the matter for yourself. If, after considering this matter, you find yourself in agreement with me, I would encourage you to take the following action since the vote on this issue will be extremely close and could come down just a few votes:
1. Make sure you are registered to vote in the November 6 election.
2. Send out a similar email to everyone you know encouraging them to register to vote in the Nov. 6 election and encourage them to vote FOR referendum 1.
3. Ask your friends to repeat this process so as to mobilize as man people as possible.
Before I sign off, allow me to share one more fact with you. This referendum is the most significant of its kind nationwide. Groups such as the liberal NEA, moveon.org, and Hillary Clinton's campaign do not want this referendum to pass because they believe other states will follow Utah 's example. If other states DO follow Utah 's example, the possibilities for the expansion of Christian education and the Christian worldview in our land will increase significantly. If you agree with myself and other supporters of this referendum such as Utah Governor Jon Huntsman and the Utah legislature (which actually passed the bill before it was challenged), please do all you can to passionately and proactively support the passage of referendum 1. It could mean great things for the spread of the Gospel to the children of Utah and even the rest of the country.
Blessings,
Dr. Jason Epps, Pastor
